Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you might want to know about GritShip — pricing, features, migration, security, and how it compares to other tools.

Pricing & Plans

Is GritShip free to use?
Yes. The Free plan includes 1 workspace, up to 3 members, 3 projects, unlimited tasks, kanban boards, priorities, labels, comments, and real-time collaboration. No credit card required.
How much does Pro cost?
Pro is $8 per month or $69 per year (a ~28% saving over monthly). Pricing is flat — not per seat — for up to 25 members per workspace.
Is the price per user or flat?
Flat. The Pro plan is $8/month total for the whole workspace, regardless of whether you have 2 members or 25. We deliberately reject per-seat pricing because it punishes small teams for collaborating.
Do you offer a free trial of Pro?
There is no separate trial — the Free plan is generous enough to evaluate the product properly. If you find the limits restrictive, upgrade to Pro and use the 14-day no-questions-asked refund window if you change your mind.
What is your refund policy?
We offer a 14-day no-questions-asked refund on all Pro purchases. Email contact@gritship.com and we will refund you and revert your account to the Free plan. After 14 days, refunds are case-by-case (technical issues are typically eligible). See the full policy at gritship.com/refund.

Features

What features are included in every plan?
Kanban boards with drag-and-drop, sortable list view, real-time collaboration, keyboard shortcuts, markdown task descriptions, P1–P4 priorities, custom labels, task assignments, and threaded comments. Pro adds recurring tasks, calendar view, subtasks, export, and guest access.
Does GritShip have a mobile app?
GritShip is web-only and responsive. The web app works well on mobile browsers (we test at 375px width minimum), but there is no native iOS or Android app. This is intentional: maintaining native apps would slow down the web experience that 95% of users actually live in.
Does GritShip have AI features?
No. GritShip deliberately ships without AI assistants, summarization, or generative features. The product targets people who already know what they want to ship; AI features are someone else's problem.
How long does setup take?
Under 60 seconds. Sign up with Google in one click, create a project, add columns and tasks, optionally invite your team. No onboarding calls, no training, no configuration wizard.
Does GritShip support real-time collaboration?
Yes. GritShip uses WebSocket subscriptions powered by Supabase Realtime. When a teammate moves a task, changes a priority, or leaves a comment, everyone in the workspace sees the update instantly without refreshing the page.

Migration & Import

Can I import from Trello, Linear, Notion, or Jira?
GritShip does not ship a native import today. The practical migration path is exporting your existing tool to CSV (every major tool supports this) and recreating the board structure in GritShip. Most teams find that switching is a good moment to simplify their existing structure rather than mirror it exactly.
How do I export my data out of GritShip?
Pro plans include a full export of all tasks, projects, and comments to JSON or CSV. Free plans can export task lists per project to CSV. There is no lock-in — your data is yours.
Will I lose data if I downgrade or cancel?
No. If you cancel Pro, your account reverts to the Free plan limits but your existing data stays intact. You can export everything at any time. Accounts deleted explicitly are purged from active databases within 30 days; backups expire on a 90-day rolling window.

Security & Data

Where is my data stored?
GritShip runs on Supabase (PostgreSQL) for the database, Vercel for application hosting, and Cloudflare R2 for file attachments. Your data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest. Full details, including all sub-processors, are listed in the privacy policy at gritship.com/privacy.
Is GritShip GDPR / CCPA compliant?
Yes. Our privacy policy at gritship.com/privacy documents the legal basis for each kind of processing, your rights as an EEA or California resident, and how to exercise them. Email contact@gritship.com for any data-rights request.
Do you offer SSO or SAML?
Not today. Sign-in is via email or Google OAuth. SAML / SSO would shift the product toward enterprise buyers, which is the opposite of where we are heading. If your team requires SAML, GritShip is probably not the right fit.

Comparisons

How is GritShip different from Trello?
GritShip is faster (sub-200ms interactions vs Trello's noticeably slower drags), more keyboard-driven, and built for product teams rather than personal productivity (Trello's recent direction). See the side-by-side at gritship.com/compare/trello.
Is GritShip a Linear alternative?
For continuous-flow teams that don't run cycles, yes. Linear is excellent for teams running structured iterations with cycle planning and triage; GritShip is the lighter, flat-priced kanban for teams who ship continuously. See gritship.com/compare/linear.
Is GritShip a Jira alternative?
For teams under 10 who don't run Scrum, yes. Jira is built for enterprise software organizations with dedicated admins; GritShip is a lightweight kanban without schemes, workflows, or per-seat pricing. See gritship.com/compare/jira.

Support

How do I get help with GritShip?
Email contact@gritship.com. Pro plans receive a response within 24 hours on business days; Free plans within 48 hours on a best-effort basis. We do not run a phone support line — async-first works better for both of us.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Email contact@gritship.com with a description of the issue. For bugs, include steps to reproduce, what you expected, and what actually happened. We read every feature request — we don't commit to building every one, but they shape the roadmap.
